Asia offers some of the most spectacular bikepacking routes on the planet. From Himalayan passes at 18,000 feet to tropical island circuits, the terrain variety is unmatched. Combined with affordable food and welcoming cultures, Asia is a bikepacker paradise.
Karakoram Highway, Pakistan
Often called the highest paved international highway, the KKH runs from Islamabad to the Chinese border through dramatic mountain scenery. Ride alongside glaciers, through narrow gorges, and past 7,000-meter peaks. Khunjerab Pass at 4,693 meters. Extraordinary hospitality, especially in the Hunza Valley. Best June through September.
Annapurna Circuit, Nepal
One of the world classic trekking routes, increasingly popular with bikepackers. Circles the Annapurna massif, crossing Thorung La pass at 5,416 meters. Sections are rideable, others require carrying your bike. Subtropical lowlands, alpine meadows, and high-altitude desert in one trip. Teahouses provide food and shelter. Mekong River Route, Southeast Asia
Following the Mekong from Laos through Cambodia. Flat to rolling terrain, warm weather, endless roadside food stalls. Cultural landscape shifts from Buddhist monasteries to Angkor temples. Mostly paved roads, varying quality. Dry season November through March is ideal.
Hokkaido, Japan
Rolling farmland, volcanic mountains, natural hot springs, and incredible seafood. Well-maintained roads with respectful drivers. Large enough for weeks of riding without repeating. Plentiful affordable campgrounds. Wild camping generally tolerated. June through September riding season.
